Girls!

When I was allowed to wear makeup, I did it for about a week. Decided it was too much trouble. Got my ears pierced at 14, but never wore earrings all that much. Hairdryer? Only if some water spilled on the bed and I needed to sleep. Curling iron? Okay, even I used it to poof my bangs in the late 80s, but not as much as those other girls and only for things like picture day (and yes. I regret thinking I needed to preserve that hairstyle in school photos! If you look at candid shots of me during those years, you usually saw no poof)

I don't really classify myself as either tomboy or girlie girl. Jane doesn't either, however, she's begged me for months to buy a hairdryer (we haven't had a working on in the house for about a decade). I bought her an all in one tool set with flat iron, and a couple sizes of curling barrels. It took her all of a year to figure out there were better ones out there and that this just wasn't doing the right job... would I buy her a better flat iron, too?

Heavens! This is going to be fun.

Meanwhile, the arguments these days are so stupid. Example is the other day when nothing bad happened, she kept getting mad over nothing. It was sort of like trying to deal with a tired child only...different. I sensed it in my bones that it wasn't because she was tired. It was hormones. Then I remembered she had her first pimple last week. Oh my!

And for those who say she's too young to really be starting yet, I would just like to add here that her birth mother, sister, grandmother ALL reached puberty at an age earlier than most women in my family. {gulp}

I am just holding out hope that this is an initial hormone imbalance and that she'll get better at coping with it. Yeah, I know. Teens never really get better at it, but...
